What Drives Us!
Seeing a need in the community to create a comprehensive enrichment experience for low income and at-risk youth, HistoryMakersLA was founded in 1998.  We currently serve San Fernando Valley public school children from kindergarten to graduation.

We have tutored and mentored hundreds of students and our program has made it possible that students graduate from high school and enter college well prepared for today’s challenges and tomorrow’s issues.

About the Founder

Michael Hernandez, President and Chief Executive Officer. created History Makers International in July, 1998.  The inspiration for History Makers was the song “History Makers” from Delirious (a British pop rock group).

Michael Hernandez, a veteran educator (who has taught in public schools, adult school and colleges and universities), has been helping “challenged” students since 1991 and received recognition in 1998 for developing an academic intervention program in Monrovia (Santa Fe Middle School) that resulted in one of the five highest test score gains of any middle school in Southern California.

More recently, he has created both before-school and after-school intervention programs for “low performing” students in Oxnard, Glendale, Los Angeles, Saugus and Simi Valley.

About History Makers

History Makers International became a California Department of Education approved Supplemental Educational Services provider in May, 2005 and entered its first contract to offer tutorial services through No Child Left Behind in January, 2006 with the Oxnard Elementary School District.  

History Makers International subsequently entered into a contract with the Los Angeles Unified School District to offer tutorial services in May, 2006 and began its academic intervention program for K-12 students in September, 2006 at two tutoring centers in the San Fernando Valley.  History Makers International now operates seven tutoring centers in the San Fernando Valley (Canoga Park, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Pacoima, Reseda, San Fernando, and Van Nuys).

History Makers International began to pursue a larger vision in 2010—the raising up of History Makers in 12 spheres of life Education; Business & Finances; Politics & Government; Media & Communications; Family; Health; Religion; Music; Science & Technology; Culture & Arts; Personal Development; and Sports & Games.

Also in 2010,  History Makers International launched  “A Vision For America” campaign which engages citizens in “The Battle for US” and Christians in “The Battle for The King.”
